Jens Quistgaard was trained as a sculptor, carpenter, ceramicist and silversmith. After World War II, he set up his own design studio in Copenhagen. Although he utilized various materials, he was mostly fascinated by wood. Quistgaard’s well-designed and well-executed products typify the Danish Modern style with fluid and soft outlines. His immensely popular Dansk tableware pieces helped define Scandinavian modern in postwar America.
