Bølling’s main source of inspiration was an incident that took place in a part of Copenhagen called Frederiksberg. A policeman stopped busy city traffic when he saw a duck family trying to get across the street in order to let them pass. This idyllic moment was inspirational for much of the Danish population, including Bølling, who felt so inspired he recreated the Duck and the Duckling out of teak wood.
The Duck and the Duckling heads are turnable, which makes it possible for them to change expression and their posture. In this way the mother duck can look after her waddling ducklings.
