Helsinki-based Secto Design brings compelling Finnish traditions to light in their handcrafted products. The fixtures, designed by architect Seppo Koho, show his affinity for architectonic clarity. True to his credo that “light should softly invite people to come closer,” the illumination radiating through the clean lines of the birch slats composing each fixture delightfully beckons. The company’s products are cut and formed by hand, carrying on a storied tradition set by iconic designers like Alvar Aalto.

The design of the lamps is both classic and contemporary, and the forms of the shades are simple, yet interesting at the same time. Secto Design collection consists of several lamp series that together form a clear and unique appearance of the brand. Behind the demanding craftsmanship there are highly skilled Finnish carpenters. The underlying approach of the lamp collection has remained the same as the collection has grown: The shades are made of laminated birch slats connected by rings of aircraft plywood.

The 4241 Octo is the smaller version of the grand Octo 4240 pendant that has already become a classic because of its airy lightness.

The Octo 4241 shades are available in 4 versions: natural birch, black laminate, white laminate and walnut veneer. The shades in natural birch, white laminate and walnut veneer come with a white cable and ceiling cup, the black laminate versions with a black cable and ceiling cup.
