The fixture emits downward directed light. The angle of the shade can be adjusted to optimize light distribution. The shade is painted white on the inside to ensure a soft comfortable light.

In 2016 Louis Poulsen has relaunched the original Radiohus lights, originally created for the Radiohuset building on Frederiksberg in Copenhagen, which was designed by the architect Vilhelm Lauritzen (1894-1984)– one of the leading proponents of modernism and functionalism. Vilhelm Lauritzen also designed all the lights for the Radiohuset building in partnership with Louis Poulsen.

The VL38 family was relaunched in its original design, where the lamp head is organically shaped, painted white and obliquely angled. The arms of the light fittings are made of brass, and all the lamps have been fitted with LED light sources to accommodate contemporary advances in light technology and energy efficiency.

The relaunched VL38 Radiohus family consists of a table lamp, a floor lamp and wall lamp.
